Description
With Volley Sights & Magazine Cutoff ! This old war horse is in surprisingly good condition for a 108 year old as can be seen in the photos. Highly unusually, this rifle presents as all original & in complete condition with the magazine cut-off retained, along with the volley sights which have never been removed plus it retains the original, old style bolt cocking piece. The metal work is in excellent condition with no sign of pitting or damage as can be seen in the photos. The wood has done its job in protecting the rifle from bangs & dings, showing a life of service but overall it is pretty good. After WW1 it was issued to a Queensland CMF (Army Reserve) unit as indicated by the 1MD (1st Military District) stamp & the inventory number on the receiver. The bore is dark with visible rifling but this is collectable because of its original condition & it should be bought on this basis. Lithgow SHT LE III's in this excellent original condition that saw service in WW1 for sure, perhaps WW2 as a 2nd line rifle for POW camp guards etc. & remains in the original, unmolested condition are few on the ground. This would make an excellent addition to any SMLE collection, being a highly collectible rifle in its own right with a verifiable Aussie military provenance. Please view the photos carefully as they form the main description & override all written information so ask for more if desired. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting. Call for shipping cost to your dealer.
