Description
The Remington Double Derringer is one of the most iconic pocket pistols ever produced and remains one of the most recognisable firearms of the American frontier era. Designed by William H. Elliott and manufactured by Remington from the 1860s through the early twentieth century, the Double Derringer became renowned for its compact size, simplicity and reliability. This handgun is chambered in .41 Rimfire and bears serial number 17. Featuring the classic over-under two-barrel configuration, the pistol was designed as a discreet and easily carried personal defence arm. The unique rotating firing pin system allows each barrel to be fired in succession, providing two shots from an exceptionally compact package. The pistol retains its original bird's-head grip profile with finely checkered hard rubber grip panels and features the characteristic spur trigger and tip-up barrel assembly for loading and unloading. The compact dimensions and robust construction made the Remington Derringer a favourite among travellers, gamblers, lawmen and civilians throughout the latter half of the nineteenth century. This example displays an attractive aged patina consistent with a genuine antique firearm, with visible original finish remaining and honest wear acquired through more than a century of preservation. The classic lines, historic chambering and enduring popularity of the Remington Double Derringer make it one of the most sought-after pocket pistols of the American Old West period.
