Description
Rare, mint & complete with rear aperture sight! This is one of the rarest of the Sako rifles. Sako Finnwolf, designed in 1958 was developed for growing markets in North America. The first prototype was built for caliber .30-06, but the long case caused problems for the construction & thus the production samples were developed for .243 Winchester & .308 Winchester. The first model was marked as VL61. The new model was developed in summer 1962, which had a cheek rest on the stock & Monte Carlo type stock (as this has) in addition to few other modifications to the construction & was named to VL63. For its time the Finnwolf was an exceptional rifle & were a very highly machined rifle, a great example how one small North European country had a rifle factory where designers, engineers & salesmen decided to do something new. The calibres it was offered in were .243 & .308, with the .308 being the most numerous, making this an even rarer find. Incredibly, this example was bought new by the owner we purchased it from, comes with the rear aperture sight, which were mostly lost over the years & have a replacement cost of around $250 if you can find one. It is fitted with a period correct Tasco 7.5x40 scope which the original owner purchased new with the rifle & is still clear. The bore is excellent as the previous owner bought it for a purpose but it has stayed in the safe for the past 40 years, rarely shot. Today, these are sought rifles & are highly valued by collectors with many still in use, mostly US & Australia which were the main export market. You will know if this is for you so view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired. Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an 'as is' basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting. Call for shipping cost to your dealer.
