Description

Mint, matching Unicorn gun with factory box! Offered for pre-sale is this mint condition & highly collectable PPK-L Dural which dates from the mid to late 1950's. Before 1945 they were simply called PPK Dural, whereas postwar ones were given a separate model designation: PPK-L. The PPK has a long history going back to pre-war Germany & is as well known to many as being the preferred pistol of 007 James Bond & we all know Uncle Adolph did the world a favour when he didn’t check his PPK was loaded before peering intently down the barrel to find that lost piece of chewing gum in April 1945 at the Führerbunker in Berlin. As a background, the PPK was issued to Police Officers & numerous Nazi Party leaders (although this is not one of those). During the Cold War, it was a preferred pistol for those performing ‘covert activities’ on both sides due to its size, weight & concealability. “PPK” is an abbreviation for Polizeipistole Kriminal (literally “police pistol criminal”), referring to the Kriminalamt crime investigation office. While the K is often mistakenly assumed to stand for kurz (German for “short”), as the variant has a shorter barrel & frame, Walther used the name “Kriminal” in early advertising brochures & the 1937 GECO German catalog. The letter L in the name of this model of the pistol just meant light alloy, but in this case it was not just aluminum. In many cases, aluminum turned out to be a very soft & not strong enough metal for its use in engineering firearms. For this reason, “resistant” aluminum (from the Latin durus) was created in Germany during or some even say pre-WW2. Today, solid aluminum alloy is officially called duralumin & is widely known under the brand name Dural. The company Carl Walther in Ulm used this alloy not only for the manufacture of Walther PPK-L pistol grip arms, but also for post-war P38 (P1) pistols & a number of other weapon models. Duralumin itself was created originally for the needs of aviation industry. In fact, the rapidly developing aviation industry began its direct & fairly large-scale use in the production of wings & various parts of the fuselage already in the 1930's of the last century. What you are unlikely to find in literature today is that before becoming synonymous with durable & lightweight aluminum, Dural was already secretly used in the German military industry. It goes without saying that a Walther PPK is a must have for the serious collector of post ’46 hand guns so why not go for one of the rarest & most collectable? This example was part of the recent import from Germany & as can be seen in the photos, is in outstanding condition for a gun which is around 70 years old! It is fully matching numbers, has the original finish, has never been restored & comes with the original box which is in impeccable condition with no rips or tears seen & even has the original user manual & sighting target plus the flat magazine base & tool! Walther PPK’s are iconic in their own right & this is your chance to own one of the rarest original German manufactured PPK's in beautiful condition & add it to your collection! Note that a collectors license for modern handguns is required to purchase this pistol. There is plenty of information out there on the PPK-L so do your own research & you will know if this is for you. These are the only photos we have right now so please view them carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional & are happy for feedback from people who know more than we do. Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting. We have a pretty unique refund policy on our collectable guns whereby we will refund your money if it is not as described when you receive it. Just let us know before you send it back.
