About the Bernardelli Hemingway

The Bernardelli Hemingway is a side-by-side double-barrel break-action shotgun built by the Italian gunmaker Vincenzo Bernardelli of Gardone Val Trompia. Named in tribute to the writer and sportsman Ernest Hemingway, it is a traditional English-style upland game gun built on an Anson & Deeley boxlock action with automatic ejectors. Offered in 12, 20 and 28 gauge (with a 16-gauge version added in 1990), it features a slender select-walnut English straight-grip stock and splinter forend, a coin-finished receiver with game-scene engraving, 2.75-inch chambers, and double triggers with a single trigger available as an option. Light and fast-handling at around 2.3 to 3.2 kilograms depending on gauge and barrel length, it was conceived as a refined field gun for driven and walked-up bird shooting.

Vincenzo Bernardelli founded his firearms business in Gardone Val Trompia in 1865, building a reputation for fine side-by-side game guns. The Hemingway, named for the celebrated novelist and avid bird hunter Ernest Hemingway, became one of the firm's signature English-style upland doubles before the historic company closed in 2017.
