About the Glock 19X

The Glock 19X is a crossover pistol that combines the compact Glock 19 slide with the full-size Glock 17 frame, creating a hybrid configuration optimized for duty and defensive use. Introduced at SHOT Show 2018, the G19X is the commercial adaptation of Glock's submission to the U.S. Army's Modular Handgun System (MHS) competition, which ultimately awarded the contract to the SIG Sauer P320 (adopted as the M17/M18). The 19X was the first factory-colored Glock, featuring a distinctive Coyote Tan finish with a proprietary nPVD slide coating for enhanced corrosion resistance. Built on Gen5 architecture, it incorporates a Glock Marksman Barrel with polygonal rifling and target crown, ambidextrous slide stop levers, no finger grooves, factory-installed self-luminous night sights, a flared magwell for faster reloading, and a lanyard loop. It ships with one 17-round and two 19-round extended magazines. The crossover concept provides the full grip and capacity of the G17 with the shorter, more concealable slide of the G19.

The Glock 19X exists because Glock lost the biggest military handgun contract in decades. When the U.S. Army's Modular Handgun System competition awarded the contract to SIG Sauer's P320 in 2017, Glock protested the decision and ultimately pivoted by releasing their MHS submission to the commercial market as the G19X. The move proved to be a masterstroke - the crossover concept resonated with shooters who wanted the full grip of a G17 with the shorter slide of a G19, and the distinctive Coyote Tan color stood out in a sea of black polymer pistols. The G19X became one of Glock's most commercially successful launches ever, proving that sometimes losing a military contract is more profitable than winning one.

The 'X' in G19X officially stands for 'crossover,' referring to the combination of two different frame and slide sizes. This was Glock's first departure from their traditional black-only color scheme - the Coyote Tan finish was originally specified to meet U.S. military desert environment requirements. The G19X omits the Gen5 front serrations found on other Gen5 models. It was extremely successful commercially despite losing the MHS contract, becoming one of Glock's best-selling models and spawning the conceptually similar Glock 45 (which uses a black finish and front slide serrations). The flared magwell features a distinctive front lip or 'toe' designed to facilitate magazine insertion in adverse field conditions. After over 2,000 rounds of testing by multiple reviewers, the G19X has consistently demonstrated zero malfunctions, maintaining Glock's reputation for exceptional reliability.
