About the Kimber Model 84

The Kimber Model 84 is a bolt-action centerfire sporting rifle produced by Kimber of Oregon from the mid-1980s until the company's liquidation in 1991. Designed by company founder Jack Warne around a scaled-down 'mini-Mauser' action reminiscent of the pre-64 Winchester Model 70, it features controlled-round feed, an integral recoil lug, and a hinged floorplate over an internal box magazine. Chambered for short cartridges such as the .223 Remington, the Model 84 became prized among benchrest shooters and varmint hunters for its fine fit, quality walnut stockwork, and accuracy.

Jack Warne, an Australian who had founded the firearms maker Sportco in Adelaide, named his Oregon company after Kimba, an aboriginal word meaning 'bush fire' from the varmint country he had hunted, adding an 'R' to give it an American ring.

Kimber Model 84 specifications

The original Kimber of Oregon Model 84 is distinct from the later Kimber Mfg., Inc. Model 84M reintroduced in the 2000s. Companion to the rimfire Model 82. Original-era guns are marked 'Kimber of Oregon, Clackamas, OR' and are sought after by collectors.
