The Mossberg 464 is a traditional American lever-action carbine chambered in .30-30 Winchester, introduced in 2008 as Mossberg's affordable entry into the classic deer-woods lever-gun market long dominated by the Marlin 336 and Winchester Model 94. It feeds from a 6+1 tubular magazine, uses an exposed hammer with a two-position tang safety, and wears a walnut or hardwood stock with a 20-inch blued barrel. Its angle-eject receiver allows conventional top scope mounting, and the line later expanded into a tactical SPX configuration and a .22 LR rimfire version.

Mossberg's modern, budget-priced take on the classic American .30-30 lever gun launched precisely when Winchester had stopped Model 94 production and Marlin was changing hands, positioning the 464 to fill a market gap at roughly half the price of a Japanese-made Model 94. Its angle/top-eject receiver lets you mount a scope over the bore, unlike the traditional side-ejecting Marlin 336.

Discontinuation of the .30-30 centerfire has not been officially announced, but it became hard to find as of the mid-2020s; status set to discontinued on that basis. The SPX tactical variant uses a 1:16 twist and a 5-round magazine. The model number is an internal form-sequence number with no special significance.
