About the Pedersoli 1850 Underhammer Cook Target Pistol
The Pedersoli 1850 Underhammer Cook Target Pistol is a single-shot, muzzle-loading percussion target pistol in .36 caliber. Its distinctive underhammer design places the percussion hammer and nipple beneath the barrel, with the trigger guard doubling as the mainspring, giving an unobstructed sight line and making the pistol equally comfortable for left- and right-handed shooters. Built as a modern reproduction of a mid-19th-century American underhammer, it features a rifled blued barrel with seven grooves, an adjustable rear sight, a windage-adjustable front sight, and a stained walnut target grip, and is intended for MLAIC muzzle-loading target competition.
Underhammer pistols were a distinctly American percussion-era design, popular from the 1830s to the 1850s for their clean sight picture; Pedersoli revived the pattern for competitive black-powder target shooters.
