About the Pietta 1858 Remington Target Stainless
The Pietta 1858 Remington Target Stainless is a stainless-steel, target-sighted reproduction of the Remington Model 1858 New Model Army cap-and-ball revolver. This variant pairs the strong solid-top-strap frame of the original Remington with a fully adjustable target rear sight and a corrosion-resistant stainless finish, making it a popular choice for muzzleloading target and competition shooting. Like the standard model it is a six-shot, single-action percussion revolver in .44 caliber with an 8-inch octagonal barrel, a brass trigger guard, and two-piece walnut grips.
The Remington 1858 New Model Army earned its reputation as the strongest percussion revolver of the American Civil War thanks to its solid top strap, which fully enclosed the cylinder and gave the frame far more rigidity than the open-top Colt designs of the era. That same rigidity, combined with the natural sighting groove along the top strap, made the pattern the favourite platform for accuracy work long after cartridge revolvers took over. Modern stainless target versions like Pietta's lean directly into that heritage, adding an adjustable rear sight so black-powder shooters can zero the gun precisely for competition.
