About the Pietta 1858 Remington Texas

The Pietta 1858 Remington Texas is a brass-framed reproduction of the Remington Model 1858 New Army, produced as a single-action cap-and-ball revolver. Chambered in .44 caliber and fired by percussion caps, it carries a six-shot cylinder in a solid top-strap frame with a tapered octagonal barrel, a solid steel loading lever, and two-piece walnut grips. The polished brass frame distinguishes the Texas line from Pietta's blued steel-framed 1858 New Model Army, giving it a distinctive Old West appearance while retaining the removable cylinder that made the original Remington design fast to reload.

The original Remington New Model Army of 1858 was the Colt Army's chief rival during the American Civil War. Its solid top strap fully enclosed the cylinder, producing a stronger frame than Colt's open-top design and a built-in sighting groove. Because the cylinder could be dropped free by lowering the loading lever and pulling the base pin, a shooter could swap in a pre-charged spare cylinder for a rapid reload - a feature no Colt percussion revolver offered. Pietta's brass-framed 'Texas' models revive that pattern with the ornamental yellow-brass frame associated with frontier and Western-styled black powder guns.
