About the Remington Model 10

The Remington Model 10 is an American hammerless pump-action (slide-action) 12-gauge shotgun with a distinctive single bottom port that both loads and ejects, leaving the receiver sides solid. Designed by John Pedersen and produced 1908-1929, it was issued in a short trench/riot configuration (Model 10-A) to U.S. forces in World War I.

John Pedersen - whom John M. Browning reportedly called 'the greatest gun designer in the world' - created the Model 10 as a hammerless, bottom-ejecting rival to Browning's Winchester 1897. Its short-barreled Model 10-A trench gun saw U.S. combat in WWI, where Germany formally protested American combat shotguns as inhumane.
