About the Remington Model 700 Mountain

The Remington Model 700 Mountain is a lightweight bolt-action hunting rifle built on the famed Model 700 long action. Introduced in the mid-1980s as the Model 700 Mountain Rifle, it pairs a slim, tapered 'mountain contour' 22-inch barrel with a trimmed stock to shave weight for backcountry hunting, bringing the rifle down to roughly 6.5 pounds. Later stainless (SS) and laminated stainless (LSS) versions add corrosion resistance and a Bell & Carlson synthetic stock, an X-Mark Pro externally adjustable trigger, jeweled bolt, and recessed target crown. Chambered in popular big-game cartridges such as the .270 Winchester, it is prized by mountain and sheep hunters who value low carry weight and Model 700 accuracy.

The Model 700 Mountain Rifle answered demand from backcountry and sheep hunters for a Model 700 light enough to carry all day in steep terrain without giving up the platform's legendary out-of-the-box accuracy.
