About the Remington Model 8
The Remington Model 8 is one of the first commercially successful semi-automatic sporting rifles, introduced in 1906 (marketed from 1906 and produced through 1936). Designed by John Moses Browning, it operates on a long-recoil principle in which the barrel and bolt recoil fully rearward together inside a distinctive barrel shroud before the bolt unlocks via a rotating-bolt head. It was offered in the rimless .25, .30, .32 and .35 Remington cartridges developed expressly for it, fed from a fixed internal box magazine loaded by stripper clips.
Retired Texas Ranger Frank Hamer carried a Remington Model 8 in .35 Remington fitted with an extended 20-round magazine by the Peace Officers Equipment company when his posse ambushed outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in 1934.

The .35 Remington chambering held four rounds while the smaller calibers held five. The improved Model 81 Woodsmaster (1936-1950) succeeded it and added the .300 Savage chambering; a detachable-magazine police variant was sold as the SR-8.
