About the Remington Model 870 Express
The Remington Model 870 Express is the value-priced, field-grade version of the classic Remington 870 pump-action shotgun. Introduced in 1987, the Express keeps the 870's twin-action-bar bolt and forged, machined steel receiver but replaces the polished blued steel and high-grade walnut of the Wingmaster line with a matte, bead-blasted finish and a hardwood or synthetic stock to lower cost. Chambered for 3-inch 12-gauge shells and fed from a tubular magazine, it is one of the most widely sold pump shotguns in the world, used for hunting, clay sports, and home defense.
The Model 870 was designed as a modern, streamlined successor to Remington's Model 31 pump gun. The Express line launched in 1987 brought the proven action to a lower price point and became a fixture in North American hunting camps and gun cabinets.
