About the Remington No. 5 Rolling Block

The Remington No. 5 Rolling Block is a single-shot, breech-loading military rifle introduced in 1897. It adapted Remington's famously strong rolling-block action to the era of smokeless powder, chambering the high-velocity 7x57mm Mauser cartridge. Exported in large numbers to Latin American nations, it served as an affordable service and reserve arm well into the early twentieth century.

Built on Leonard Geiger and Joseph Rider's rolling-block design, the No. 5 proved the old action could handle modern smokeless cartridges. Cheap, robust and simple to maintain, it armed Latin American armies and rurales and saw use through the upheaval of the Mexican Revolution.
