About the Ruger 10/22 Sporter

The Ruger 10/22 Sporter is a semi-automatic rimfire rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle, a deluxe variant of Sturm, Ruger & Co.'s enduring 10/22 platform first offered in the mid-1960s. It pairs the standard 10/22 blowback action and detachable 10-round rotary magazine with an upgraded, finely finished American walnut stock featuring cut checkering, a Monte Carlo comb, a flat buttplate with non-slip rubber pad, and sling swivels, distinguishing it from the plainer barrel-banded carbine. The 18.5-inch cold hammer-forged barrel is secured to the receiver by Ruger's characteristic two-screw V-block system, and a combination scope base accepts both Weaver-style and .22 tip-off mounts. A positive push-button cross-bolt manual safety and a single-stage trigger round out a rifle intended for small-game hunting, plinking, and target shooting. Weighing roughly 5.2 pounds, the Sporter offers the same legendary reliability and vast aftermarket support as the base 10/22 in a more traditional, sporting presentation.

The walnut-stocked Sporter has long been the 'dressed-up' 10/22, the version many buyers pick when they want the platform's proven reliability in a classic sporting-rifle appearance rather than the utilitarian barrel-banded carbine.

The Sporter (model 1102 blued) is the walnut-stocked deluxe member of the 10/22 family, retaining the same receiver, action, and rotary magazine as the carbine while omitting the barrel band in favor of a checkered Monte Carlo sporter stock with sling swivels. It benefits from the same enormous aftermarket ecosystem that surrounds every 10/22.

This is a variant of the Ruger 10/22.
