About the Ruger Hawkeye Guide Gun

The Ruger Hawkeye Guide Gun is a compact bolt-action hunting rifle built on Ruger's M77 Hawkeye action, designed for backcountry and dangerous-game guides who need a rugged, weatherproof rifle. It combines a 20-inch cold hammer-forged stainless steel barrel with a threaded muzzle and radial-port muzzle brake (shipped with a thread protector), a green Mountain laminate stock with wrap-around checkering, controlled-round-feed Mauser-style extraction, a hinged floorplate, integral scope mounts, and express-style iron sights.

The M77 was introduced by Sturm, Ruger in 1968 as a modern, affordable Mauser-style bolt-action rifle designed by Bill Ruger and L. James Sullivan. The Hawkeye Guide Gun revived the classic 'guide gun' concept of a short, hard-hitting, all-weather rifle for wilderness guides operating in bear country.
