About the Savage Model 24

The Savage Model 24 is an American break-action over/under combination gun pairing a rimfire rifle barrel (most commonly .22 LR) above a smoothbore shotgun barrel (most commonly .410 bore). Selectable between barrels via a single trigger and hammer-mounted selector, it was a popular survival, small-game, and pest-control gun across a long 1938-2010 production run.

The gun began as the 1938 Stevens Model 22-410, and about 15,000 were bought by the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII as pilot survival guns - a role that directly inspired the later M6 Aircrew Survival rifle.

Began life in 1938 as the Stevens Model 22-410. Offered over the years in numerous combinations including .22 WMR, .22 Hornet, .222 Rem, .223 Rem, .30-30 Win and .357 Mag over .410, 20-gauge or 12-gauge. Succeeded by the polymer-stocked Savage Model 42. Weight/length figures apply to the classic .22 LR / .410 24-inch configuration.
