About the Savage Model 755

The Savage Model 755 is a long-recoil operated semi-automatic shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, built by Savage Arms on a licensed version of John Browning's Auto-5 design. It feeds from a tubular magazine holding four shells for a total of five rounds, and is recognizable by the squared humpback receiver characteristic of the Auto-5 family. Offered in 12 and 16 gauge with 26, 28 or 30 inch blued barrels, a walnut checkered pistol-grip stock and a 2 3/4 inch chamber, it was a popular field and hunting autoloader through the 1950s.

The Model 755 was Savage's take on John Browning's revolutionary Auto-5, the first successful semi-automatic shotgun. Its distinctive squared-off humpback receiver became one of the most recognizable silhouettes in shotgun history and remained in the Savage catalog through the postwar hunting boom.

Savage Model 755 specifications

Sold alongside the steel-receiver Model 755, the lighter Model 755A used an aluminium-alloy receiver roughly one pound lighter. The 755 lacks the magazine cutoff of some original Browning Auto-5 guns.
