About the Schultz & Larsen M65

The Schultz & Larsen M65 is a Danish bolt-action hunting rifle built at the company's Otterup factory in the mid-1960s. Part of the sporting-rifle line that ran from the M60 through the M65 and M68, it uses Schultz & Larsen's distinctive multi-lug rear-locking bolt action paired with the firm's renowned cut-rifled barrel, and was offered in cartridges such as the .30-06 Springfield and 6.5x55mm Swedish. Highly praised among hunters for its accuracy, it was made in small batches by slow, largely manual production.

Schultz & Larsen was founded by Olympic marksmen – Niels Larsen alone won five shooting medals between 1912 and 1924 – and that competitive pedigree fed into the firm's cut-rifled barrels, which were so accurate they were later chosen to launch Britain's SWING target rifle in the early 1970s.

Fed by a detachable box magazine, the M65 sits between the M60 and the later M68/M68DL in the Schultz & Larsen hunting-rifle lineage. Manufacturing was time-consuming and hence unprofitable, so the sporting rifles were built in limited numbers and typically sold out soon after production. Chamberings varied to order and included full-power calibers on the same rear-locking action.
