The Smith & Wesson Model 686 Plus Spec Series R is a 2026 Spec Series-bundled, optics-ready evolution of the seven-shot L-frame 686 Plus revolver chambered in .357 Magnum and .38 Special +P. It is built around a 4.13-inch stainless-steel barrel fitted with an integral Power Port to vent gas and help manage recoil, and it ships with an Aimpoint ACRO P-2 enclosed red dot mounted on a custom optic base, backed up by a red ramp front sight and adjustable rear. The frame wears a tungsten-colored Cerakote finish contrasting with a black PVD fluted cylinder, and the gun uses the no-internal-lock frame, an extended Performance Center cylinder release, and checkered wood grips. The Spec Series package adds moon clips, a pistol bag, a knife, and commemorative items.

Announced alongside the Spec Series VI pistol at SHOT Show 2026, the Spec Series R took the classic L-frame 686 Plus into the modern optics era - factory-cutting it for an enclosed-emitter Aimpoint ACRO and porting the barrel - then wrapped it in a tungsten Cerakote-and-PVD bundle complete with moon clips and a knife.
