About the Smith & Wesson M&P 9 M2.0 Metal

The Smith & Wesson M&P 9 M2.0 Metal is a full-size, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol introduced in 2023 that replaces the standard M&P M2.0's polymer frame with a precision-machined 7075-T6 aluminum alloy frame. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum with a 17+1 capacity, the M2.0 Metal features a 4.25-inch stainless steel barrel with a 1:10-inch twist rate, an overall length of 7.4 inches, height of 5.5 inches, width of 1.3 inches, and an unloaded weight of approximately 30 ounces (850g). The aluminum frame is finished in a distinctive tungsten-gray Cerakote with matte-black accents on the slide. The added mass of the metal frame significantly reduces felt recoil compared to the polymer-framed M&P, making it flatter-shooting and more controllable during rapid fire strings. Standard features include an M2.0-series flat-face trigger with enhanced sear for a light, crisp pull, Smith & Wesson's CORE optics-mounting system with cover plate, ambidextrous slide stop, reversible magazine release, Picatinny accessory rail, front and rear scalloped slide serrations, chamber indicator port, and four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts (S, M, ML, L) for customizable grip fit. The pistol ships with two 17-round magazines at an MSRP of $949.

The M&P 9 M2.0 Metal answered a long-standing request from competitive and enthusiast shooters who loved the M&P ergonomics but wanted the recoil-taming mass and premium feel of an all-metal frame. By swapping polymer for aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum, Smith & Wesson created a pistol that shoots noticeably flatter while adding only a few ounces.

The M&P 9 M2.0 Metal represents Smith & Wesson's entry into the increasingly popular metal-framed striker-fired pistol segment, competing with offerings like the Walther PDP Steel Frame, CZ P-10 SR, and SIG Sauer P320 AXG. The 7075-T6 aluminum alloy frame adds approximately 5.3 ounces over the standard polymer M&P M2.0 while providing significantly greater rigidity and reduced flex under recoil. The frame is CNC-machined from a solid billet of aerospace-grade aluminum, not cast. The 18-degree grip angle is maintained from the polymer M&P line for training compatibility. The tungsten-gray Cerakote finish provides excellent corrosion resistance and a premium aesthetic. A compact variant with a 3.6-inch barrel and 15-round capacity is also available, as well as the Performance Center Spec Series which includes a threaded 4.8-inch barrel, compensator, and 23-round magazines. The standard model retains compatibility with existing M&P M2.0 holsters despite the slightly different frame profile.
