The pistol features a 3.6-inch stainless steel barrel with Armornite corrosion-resistant finish, 6.6-inch overall length, and 10+1 round capacity from flush-fit magazines. It inherits all M2.0 generation improvements including the extended steel chassis within the polymer frame for enhanced rigidity, aggressive grip texture on all surfaces critical for managing the .40 S&W's snappier recoil impulse in a subcompact frame, a refined flat-face trigger with approximately 5.5-pound pull weight and tactile/audible reset, and four interchangeable palmswell inserts for customizable hand fit. At 25.9 ounces unloaded, the M&P40 M2.0 Subcompact is slightly heavier than the 9mm variant due to the thicker barrel and slide dimensions required for the .40 S&W chambering.
