About the Smith & Wesson M&P45 2.0

The Smith & Wesson M&P45 2.0 is a full-size, polymer-framed, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP. Introduced in 2017 as part of the M2.0 generation of the Military & Police line, the M&P45 2.0 delivers the stopping power of the .45 ACP cartridge in Smith & Wesson's proven M&P platform. The pistol features a 4.6-inch (117mm) stainless steel barrel and slide treated with the Armornite corrosion-resistant finish, an extended rigid steel chassis embedded within the polymer frame for enhanced structural rigidity and accuracy, and an aggressive grip texture covering all surfaces for secure purchase under adverse conditions. The M2.0 trigger system provides a lighter, crisper pull at approximately 6.3 pounds (28 N) with a distinct tactile and audible reset. Four interchangeable palmswell inserts accommodate different hand sizes. The pistol holds 10+1 rounds of .45 ACP. The M&P45 2.0 weighs approximately 27 ounces (765g) empty with an overall length of 7.9 inches (201mm). The 18-degree grip angle reduces perceived recoil and promotes natural point of aim. An integral accessory rail, ambidextrous slide stop, and reversible magazine release are standard. The M&P45 2.0 is available with or without a manual thumb safety, and a threaded-barrel optics-ready variant is offered for suppressor and red dot sight use.

The M&P45 2.0 continues Smith & Wesson's long tradition with the .45 ACP cartridge, dating back to the company's Model 1917 revolver that served in World War I. While the modern firearms market has largely shifted toward 9mm, the .45 ACP retains a devoted following among shooters who prize its large-caliber bullet diameter and subsonic velocities that make it ideal for suppressed use. The M&P45 2.0's combination of the proven M2.0 platform with the historic .45 ACP cartridge bridges the gap between old-school stopping power and modern polymer-framed ergonomics.

The M&P45 M2.0 represents the .45 ACP variant of the second-generation M&P platform. While the 9mm M&P9 2.0 offers 17+1 capacity, the larger .45 ACP cartridge limits the M&P45 to 10+1 rounds in a similarly sized frame. The rifling twist is 1:16 inches (406mm), optimized for the heavier .45 ACP bullets. The threaded-barrel optics-ready variant features a 5.125-inch barrel and factory-milled slide for red dot sight mounting, weighing approximately 30 ounces. The M&P45 2.0 competes directly with the Glock 21 Gen4 and FN FNX-45 in the full-size polymer .45 ACP market. The Compact variant reduces the barrel length and uses a shorter grip for concealed carry. MSRP is $699 for the standard model and $699 for the threaded barrel optics-ready variant. The M&P platform has been adopted or approved by over 800 law enforcement agencies. The loaded weight estimate includes a full 10-round .45 ACP magazine at approximately 165g.
