About the Smith & Wesson M&P9c

The Smith & Wesson M&P9c is a compact, double-stack, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol introduced in 2007 as the compact variant of the original M&P9 full-size duty pistol. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum with a 12+1 round capacity, the M&P9c features a 3.5-inch stainless steel barrel with a 1:10-inch twist rate, an overall length of 6.7 inches, height of 4.97 inches, width of 1.18 inches, and an unloaded weight of approximately 21.7 ounces (615g). The polymer frame is paired with a stainless steel slide and barrel, both treated with a durable black Melonite corrosion-resistant finish. The M&P9c features Smith & Wesson's articulated trigger with tactile and audible reset, the M&P line's signature 18-degree grip angle, and a Picatinny accessory rail for lights and lasers. Safety features include an integrated trigger safety, sear deactivation system for safe takedown, internal lock, and an optional manual thumb safety. Standard sights are steel three-dot white. The M&P9c ships with a flush-fit 12-round magazine and an extended magazine with finger rest, and it accepts full-size M&P9 magazines for increased capacity. The pistol is rated for +P ammunition.

The M&P9c was Smith & Wesson's bid to dethrone the Glock 19 as the default compact 9mm for law enforcement and civilians alike. While it never quite toppled the Austrian king, the M&P9c earned a devoted following for its superior ergonomics and interchangeable grip system, proving that Springfield, Massachusetts could still compete in the polymer pistol wars that Glock had started.

The M&P9c was introduced as part of the original M&P (Military & Police) polymer pistol lineup launched by Smith & Wesson in 2005. The compact model shared approximately 90% parts compatibility with the full-size M&P9, including the ability to accept full-size magazines, making it a versatile option for both duty and concealed carry applications. The original M&P platform featured interchangeable palmswell grip inserts in small, medium, and large sizes for customizable fit. The M&P9c competed directly with the Glock 19 in the compact 9mm market and was widely adopted by law enforcement agencies as an off-duty or plainclothes carry option. The original generation M&P9c was succeeded by the M&P 9 M2.0 Compact in 2017, which featured an improved trigger, aggressive grip texture, and extended rigid embedded stainless steel chassis. The M&P9c was also available in .40 S&W (M&P40c) and .357 SIG (M&P357c) chamberings.
