About the Smith & Wesson Model 1854

The Smith & Wesson Model 1854 is a modern lever-action rifle introduced in 2024, marking the company's return to lever guns for the first time in roughly 170 years and named for the year the company was founded. Built around a Winchester 1873-pattern toggle-link-style action modernized for the 21st century, the Model 1854 pairs traditional lever-gun handling with contemporary features: a button-rifled stainless steel barrel with a threaded muzzle, an integrated Picatinny optics rail on the receiver, XS ghost-ring sights, a flat-face trigger, an enlarged lever loop and an M-LOK-compatible polymer forend. It feeds from a tubular magazine via a side loading gate and is offered in .44 Magnum, .357 Magnum/.38 Special and .45 Colt, with later additions including .30-30 Winchester and .45-70 Government. The platform is designed as a versatile hunting and sporting rifle that blends the nostalgia of the lever action with the modular, optics-ready ergonomics expected of a modern firearm.

Smith & Wesson's corporate roots trace to the Volcanic lever-action repeaters of the 1850s, the design lineage that eventually produced the Winchester rifle. By naming its 2024 lever gun the Model 1854, Smith & Wesson reclaimed a heritage it had effectively ceded to Winchester more than a century and a half earlier.
