About the Mannlicher M1895
The Mannlicher M1895, known in Dutch service as the Geweer M.95, is a bolt-action service rifle chambered in 6.5x53R. Adopted as the standard infantry rifle of the Netherlands in 1895, it used Ferdinand Mannlicher's turn-bolt action and an en-bloc clip feeding a fixed five-round magazine. Initially built by Steyr in Austria and from 1904 produced under license at the Hembrug arsenal in Zaandam, it remained the principal Dutch service rifle through both World Wars.
The Geweer M.95 served the Dutch for nearly half a century; after 1940 captured stocks were pressed into German service as the Gewehr 211(h), and surplus rifles armed Indonesian forces during the independence struggle.
