About the Taurus 58
The Taurus 58 (Model 58) is a compact, double-action/single-action semi-automatic pistol chambered in .380 ACP, introduced in 2025 as Taurus's return to the mid-size .380 ACP market segment. Built on an aluminum alloy frame with a stainless steel slide and barrel, the Model 58 offers a 15+1 capacity in a package weighing 29.6 ounces (839g). The 4-inch (102mm) stainless steel barrel provides a longer sight radius and higher muzzle velocity than typical pocket .380s, while the DA/SA hammer-fired action with an ambidextrous combination thumb safety and decocker allows the shooter to carry in multiple conditions: cocked-and-locked in single-action mode with the safety engaged, in full double-action mode with the hammer down, or decocked via the safety/decocker lever. The single-action trigger pull measures 5 pounds 8 ounces (24.5N), while the double-action pull exceeds 8 pounds (36N). Overall length is 7.20 inches (183mm) with a height of 5.59 inches (142mm) and a width of 1.61 inches (41mm). The pistol features drift-adjustable three-dot sights, front and rear slide serrations, a reversible magazine release, and an integral accessory rail.
The Taurus 58 revives the concept of a full-size .380 ACP service pistol at a time when the caliber is almost exclusively associated with pocket-sized micro-compacts. By pairing a 15+1 capacity with a classic DA/SA hammer-fired action and decocker, Taurus created a niche product that offers minimal recoil and maximum shootability for recoil-sensitive shooters or those who prefer the .380 ACP cartridge in a more substantial platform.

The Taurus 58 represents a deliberate counter-trend to the micro-compact .380 ACP pistols that dominate the modern concealed-carry market. By offering a full 4-inch barrel and 15-round capacity in a mid-size frame, Taurus positions the Model 58 as a softer-shooting, higher-capacity alternative to both tiny .380 pocket pistols and snappier 9mm compacts. The aluminum frame keeps the weight manageable at 29.6 ounces while providing the heft needed to absorb the already-mild .380 ACP recoil. The longer barrel extracts more velocity from the cartridge compared to typical 2.5-3.5 inch .380 barrels, approaching approximately 1,000 fps (305 m/s) with standard 95-grain FMJ loads. The DA/SA action with decocker is a classic design approach that appeals to shooters who prefer a hammer-fired platform with a manual safety option. Available in both matte black and stainless finishes at an MSRP of $605. The design is reminiscent of the classic Beretta 84-series .380 pistols and serves a similar market role. The 15-round double-stack magazine provides substantial capacity for the caliber.
