About the Taurus TX9 Subcompact
The Taurus TX9 Subcompact is the smallest variant of Taurus' duty-grade TX9 striker-fired pistol platform, introduced in 2025 and purpose-built for concealed carry and off-duty use. Featuring a 3.4-inch alloy steel barrel with gas nitride finish and a 13+1 capacity, the Subcompact delivers maximum concealability while retaining the TX9 platform's ergonomics and modularity. Built on the Taurus Modular System, it shares a serialized modular chassis with the full-size and compact variants, allowing users to swap frame sizes while keeping the same fire control unit. The pistol is optics-ready via the Taurus T.O.R.O. system and uses industry-standard dovetails for iron sights. The stainless steel frame and gas nitride-finished alloy steel slide provide durability and corrosion resistance. Four interchangeable backstraps allow grip customization. The trigger features a 6.5-pound pull weight with a short, tactile reset. Overall length is 6.60 inches (168mm) with a height of 4.9 inches (124mm) and width of 1.28 inches (33mm), weighing just 21.7 ounces (615g) empty. Manufactured at Taurus' Bainbridge, Georgia facility.
The TX9 Subcompact fills the concealed carry niche in Taurus' modular pistol strategy, recognizing that the everyday carry market is the largest segment of handgun sales in the United States. By offering a subcompact option within the modular TX9 system, Taurus enables shooters to train with a full-size duty pistol and carry the same trigger, controls, and manual of arms in a pocket-sized package. This approach mirrors the strategy that propelled the SIG P365 and Springfield Hellcat to commercial success - high capacity in a micro-compact form factor - while adding the unique advantage of chassis interchangeability across the entire TX9 lineup.

The TX9 Subcompact's 3.4-inch barrel reduces muzzle velocity by approximately 5-8% compared to the 4.0-inch compact and 4.5-inch full-size barrels. With standard 124-grain 9mm loads, expect approximately 1,115 fps (340 m/s) and 431 joules of muzzle energy. The 13-round flush-fit magazine provides class-leading capacity for the subcompact size category, competing directly with the Glock 26 (10 rounds), SIG Sauer P365 (10-12 rounds), and Springfield Hellcat (11-13 rounds). Like the other TX9 variants, the subcompact accepts magazines from larger TX9 models - both 15-round compact and 17-round full-size magazines can be used with a grip sleeve for extended capacity. The shorter sight radius of the 3.4-inch barrel makes accurate shooting at distance more challenging, but the consistent trigger feel across all TX9 sizes means training transfers seamlessly between frame sizes. The accessory rail accommodates compact weapon-mounted lights such as the Streamlight TLR-7 sub.
This is a variant of the Taurus TX9 Full Size.
