About the Tikka M590

The Tikka M590 is a Finnish short-action bolt-action hunting and sporting rifle produced by Tikka (then owned by Sako) from 1989 to 1997 as part of the M90 'New Generation' series. As the short-action member of the family it was chambered for cartridges such as the .223 Remington, .243 Winchester and .308 Winchester, while its long-action sibling, the M690, handled full-length and magnum rounds like the .30-06 Springfield and .300 Winchester Magnum. It uses a 90-degree rotating two-lug cylindrical bolt derived from the earlier M55/M65 designs, a detachable box magazine and an adjustable single-stage trigger. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts and the free-floating barrel is set in a walnut sporter stock. The M590 bridged the Tikkakoski-era M55/M65 rifles and the later Sako-built M595 that preceded the modern Tikka T3.

The M590 carried the Tikka name through its handover from the historic Tikkakoski works to Sako, bridging the classic M55/M65 hunting rifles and the modular T3 family that would later make Tikka a mainstay of budget precision shooting.
