About the Tikka M77

The Tikka M77 is a Finnish break-action over/under (superposed) sporting shotgun built by Oy Tikkakoski, with two stacked 12-gauge smoothbore barrels fired from a hammerless boxlock action. Chambered for 2 3/4 inch (12/70) shells and typically bored full choke over modified above a ventilated rib, it was offered as a field and clay-target gun and imported into the United States during the late 1970s and 1980s. The straight shotgun shares its action design with the M77K combination-gun version, which substitutes a rifled lower barrel.

Tikkakoski was better known in Finland for sewing machines and submachine guns than sporting doubles, and the M77 was its bid to sell an affordable Finnish over/under alongside its more famous combination-gun sibling before the whole long-gun operation was folded into Sako.

Barrel lengths of roughly 26 to 27.5 inches (about 660-698 mm) are recorded, with fixed chokes; weight is approximate and varies with barrel length and wood. Production ran under Oy Tikkakoski until Sako absorbed the Tikkakoski long-gun business at the end of the 1980s. Weight and range figures are typical values for a 12-gauge over/under of this type rather than published factory specifications.
