About the Weatherby Mark V Backcountry 2.0

The Weatherby Mark V Backcountry 2.0 is a lightweight bolt-action mountain hunting rifle built on the steel Mark V action with a 54-degree bolt throw, here chambered in the 6.5 Weatherby RPM cartridge. It pairs a fluted stainless steel barrel and Accubrake ST muzzle brake with a Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock weighing under 20 ounces, keeping total weight down to roughly 5.4 pounds so it can be carried far into the backcountry. An externally adjustable TriggerTech trigger, a 3DHEX 3D-printed recoil pad, and Weatherby's sub-MOA accuracy guarantee make it a precision hunting rifle engineered for long shots on mountain game.

Roy Weatherby preached that speed kills, and the Backcountry 2.0 carried that gospel up the mountain in a modern key: a sub-five-and-a-half-pound rifle firing the home-grown 6.5 Weatherby RPM, a rebated-rim magnum built to feed from an ordinary bolt face yet still outrun the crowded field of 6.5 hunting cartridges.

The Backcountry 2.0 replaced the original Mark V Backcountry in 2021, adding weight savings, the Peak 44 carbon-fiber stock and a broader caliber lineup spanning 22 Creedmoor up to 300 Weatherby Magnum. In the 6.5 Weatherby RPM chambering it uses a 24-inch #1 MOD-contour barrel with a 1:8 twist (26-inch overall length with the Accubrake ST installed), a 4+1 capacity and a 46-inch overall length. The 6.5 RPM (Rebated Precision Magnum) is a rebated-rim cartridge that headspaces on a standard bolt face while pushing 140-grain bullets around 3075 fps. Sister models include the Backcountry 2.0 Ti with a titanium action and the Backcountry 2.0 Carbon with a carbon-fiber-wrapped barrel. Weatherby manufactures the rifle in Sheridan, Wyoming.
