About the Weatherby Patrician

The Weatherby Patrician is a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun introduced in 1972. Built on a lightweight aluminum receiver with a ventilated-rib barrel and a checkered walnut stock featuring a white-line-spaced rosewood grip cap, it served as the slide-action companion to Weatherby's Centurion semi-automatic shotgun, with which it shared many interchangeable parts. Manufactured in Japan for Weatherby by Kawaguchiya Firearms (KTG) and later by Nikko/Olin-Kodensha, the Patrician was offered with fixed-choke barrels typically ranging from 26 to 30 inches. The improved Patrician II, introduced in 1976, added a revised ejector able to handle 3-inch magnum shells before the line was discontinued in 1981.

The Patrician shared its receiver-pattern and many internal parts with Weatherby's Centurion gas-operated semi-automatic, the pair forming Weatherby's first dedicated shotgun line, both built in Japan during the 1970s.

Weatherby Patrician specifications

Original Patrician (1972-1976) used a 2 3/4-inch chamber; the Patrician II (1976-1981) accepted both 2 3/4-inch and 3-inch magnum shells via a redesigned ejector. Early guns were made by KTG, later production by Nikko.
