About the Winchester Model 1906
The Winchester Model 1906 is an American slide-action (pump-action) .22 rimfire rifle introduced in 1906 as a low-cost version of the Model 1890. Chambered interchangeably for .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle, it fed from a tubular magazine under the round barrel and used a takedown design for easy disassembly. Distinguished from the earlier Model 1890 by its flat shotgun-style buttplate and rounded barrel, it became one of the most popular small-game and plinking rifles of its era, with hundreds of thousands sold before production ended in 1932.
Designed by John and Matthew Browning, the Model 1906 was Winchester's affordable answer to its premium Model 1890 pump gun and helped make pump-action .22 rifles a staple of American shooting galleries and farms.
