About the Winchester XPR

The Winchester XPR (Xtreme Performance Rifle) is a modern push-feed bolt-action centerfire hunting rifle introduced in 2014 as Winchester's value-priced complement to the premium Model 70. The XPR is built around a heavy tubular steel receiver, a three-lug bolt with a short 60-degree throw and nickel-Teflon coating for smooth cycling, a free-floating button-rifled barrel with a recessed target crown, and a stiff matte-black composite stock with pillar bedding. Every metal exterior surface wears Winchester's Perma-Cote matte finish to minimize glare and resist corrosion. The user-adjustable M.O.A. trigger system, two-position thumb safety with bolt-unlock button, detachable box magazine, and Inflex Technology recoil pad bring features traditionally reserved for higher-priced rifles to a sub-$600 price point. The XPR is offered in seventeen calibers spanning .223 Remington up through .338 Winchester Magnum, .400 Legend, and .450 Bushmaster, with barrel lengths of 22, 24, or 26 inches depending on action length. Manufactured in Portugal at Browning International's Viana facility under the Winchester license held by FN Herstal, the XPR is one of the best-selling new bolt-action hunting rifles in North America.

The XPR was Winchester's answer to the wave of value-priced bolt-action rifles like the Ruger American, Savage Axis, and Tikka T3 that flooded the deer-hunting market in the early 2010s. Rather than build it in the United States, FN Herstal chose to produce the XPR at Browning International's Viana facility in Portugal, leveraging the same modern CNC tooling that builds the Browning X-Bolt and A-Bolt 3 - a quietly remarkable arrangement that puts a Winchester-branded rifle, a Browning-branded rifle, and a Belgian-corporate-owned rifle line all on the same Portuguese production floor.

Winchester XPR specifications

Manufactured in Portugal under Winchester license by Browning International (a sister company under FN Herstal/Browning Group). The M.O.A. (Match-grade, Overtravel-eliminated, Adjustable) trigger is user-adjustable from approximately 3 to 5 pounds without removing the action from the stock. The XPR shares its action design closely with the Browning A-Bolt 3 (sold in Europe), with which it is mechanically very similar. Calibers offered: .223 Rem, .243 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08 Rem, .308 Win, .350 Legend, 6.5 PRC, .270 WSM, .300 WSM, .270 Win, 6.8 Western, .30-06 Springfield, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, .338 Win Mag, .400 Legend, and .450 Bushmaster. Magazine capacities are 3 rounds for magnums, 4 rounds for short-action standards, and 5 rounds for some intermediate calibers.
