About the Brno vz. 98/22

The Brno vz. 98/22 is a Czechoslovak bolt-action rifle, an interwar derivative of the German Mauser Gewehr 98 produced by Zbrojovka Brno. Chambered in 7.92x57mm Mauser, it fed from a five-round internal box magazine loaded with stripper clips and used a tangent rear sight. Adopted by the Czechoslovak Army in 1923, it was a short-lived service rifle quickly superseded at home by the shorter vz. 24, after which large numbers were exported to nations such as Iran and Turkey, where they served into the World War II era and beyond.

Zbrojovka Brno was founded in 1918 from the former Austro-Hungarian artillery workshops in Brno, handed to the new Czechoslovak state as war reparations; the vz. 98/22 was among its first major rifle products.
