This Winchester Model 94 Canadian Centennial commemorative was produced in 1967 to mark the 100th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, dating from 1867. Winchester produced the special edition for a single year as part of its increasingly popular commemorative series, using the iconic Model 94 as the basis for a rifle celebrating an important event in Canadian history.  A total of 90,301 Canadian Centennial rifles and carbines were ultimately produced, from a planned run of 97,395. They were chambered in .30-30 and offered in both rifle and carbine configurations. Unlike many later Winchester commemoratives, the Canadian Centennial used its own straightforward serial-number sequence without a letter prefix, beginning at No. 1. This example, 2064, is consequently a particularly early-numbered example from the 1967 production run.  This rifle is the attractive long-barrelled version, distinguished by its 26-inch octagonal barrel and full-length tubular magazine. The barrel carries the gold-filled inscription “Canadian Centennial 1867–1967”. The receiver is finished in dark blue/black and decorated on both sides with engraved Canadian maple-leaf motifs, giving the rifle a distinctive appearance without the more elaborate gold-plated finish seen on some other Winchester commemoratives. The straight-grip walnut stock and matching fore-end retain the traditional lines of the Model 94, while an exposed hammer, open sights and classic lever complete the period appearance. At approximately 59 years old, this example represents an interesting piece of both Winchester and Canadian commemorative history. Winchester's commemorative Model 94s were intended to provide collectors with specially embellished versions of the company's established sporting rifle while recognising significant anniversaries, people and historical events. The Canadian Centennial was one of the larger and more successful early commemorative issues and followed Winchester's 1966 Centennial edition.
