About the Swedish Rolling Block m/1867
The Swedish Rolling Block m/1867 is a single-shot, breech-loading service rifle built on Remington's rolling block action and chambered for the 12.17x42mm rimfire cartridge. Adopted in 1867, it was the first metallic-cartridge rifle taken into service by the Swedish and Norwegian armies. Roughly 200,000 rifles were produced domestically by Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori and Husqvarna Vapenfabriks Aktiebolag. From 1889 many surviving rifles were rebarreled to the 8x58mmR Krag centerfire round as the m/1867-89.
Adopted on 8 May 1867, the m/1867 carried Sweden's infantry through nearly three decades of peace, and its simple, strong rolling block action made it a favourite for later conversion and civilian use long after it left military service.
