The Ballard No. 10 Schuetzen Junior is a single-shot falling-block target rifle built by Marlin around the Charles H. Ballard action. Introduced in 1884 as a more affordable alternative to the premium No. 6 Schuetzen and derived from the No. 8 Union Hill model, it carries a heavy octagon barrel chambered for the .32-40 or .38-55 cartridge, double-set triggers, and mid-range vernier tang peep sights graduated to 800 yards. A spirit-level windgauge front sight, checkered pistol-grip stock, raised cheek piece and Swiss-style buttplate outfit it for off-hand Schuetzen competition.

Marketed as the 'Junior' Schuetzen, the No. 10 gave amateur off-hand shooters a genuine Ballard match rifle at a fraction of the cost of the deluxe No. 6, trading engraving and premium wood for the same accurate falling-block action.
