About the Glock G29 Gen5

The Glock G29 Gen5 is the fifth-generation variant of Glock's subcompact 10mm Auto pistol, introduced in 2023 as the latest evolution of the platform. The Gen5 brings significant improvements to the pocket-sized powerhouse: the Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB) with enhanced polygonal rifling for improved accuracy, nDLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) finish for enhanced durability, a flared magazine well for faster reloads, ambidextrous slide stop lever, and the removal of finger grooves. The G29 Gen5 measures 6.93 inches (176mm) in overall length -- 1mm shorter than the Gen4 -- with the same 3.78-inch (96mm) barrel delivering the 10mm Auto's formidable ballistics: 180-grain bullets at approximately 1,200 fps for 780 joules of muzzle energy. The trigger pull is refined to 26 N, reduced from the Gen4's 28 N for a smoother pull. Weighing 26.81 ounces (760g) with an empty magazine, the G29 Gen5 remains one of the most compact and lightest 10mm Auto pistols available, making it a top choice for backcountry carry against dangerous game.

The G29 Gen5 arrived during the 10mm Auto renaissance of the 2020s, when demand for effective handgun cartridges against dangerous game was at an all-time high. The combination of Gen5 improvements -- particularly the Marksman Barrel and lighter trigger pull -- made the pocket 10mm more accurate and easier to shoot well, addressing the two most common criticisms of the platform. Backcountry hikers in Alaska and the northern Rockies increasingly chose the G29 Gen5 as their bear defense sidearm, valuing its lighter weight over revolvers and its 10+1 capacity of a cartridge proven capable against large predators.

The G29 Gen5 was released in 2023 alongside other Gen5 updates to Glock's large-bore subcompact lineup. Weight without magazine is 690g (24.34 oz). The overall length is 176mm, 1mm shorter than the Gen4's 177mm due to slight manufacturing refinements. The Gen5 Marksman Barrel improves accuracy over the Gen4's standard polygonal rifling. The dual recoil spring assembly is retained from the Gen4 for managing the 10mm's substantial recoil. Compatible with 15-round Glock 20 magazines with grip extension. The 10mm Auto's higher bolt thrust means the G29 experiences more slide velocity than its 9mm and .40 S&W siblings, making the dual spring and proper grip technique essential.

This is a variant of the Glock 29 Gen5.
