It features Mossberg's proprietary self-regulating dual-gas-vent system, which automatically bleeds excess gas to reliably cycle both light 2 3/4-inch target loads and heavy 3-inch magnum shells without manual adjustment, while simultaneously reducing felt recoil. The SPX ships with a factory-installed extended magazine tube providing 7+1 capacity, a Picatinny rail receiver mount, and LPA/M16-style ghost ring sights with a red fiber-optic front post for rapid target acquisition in low-light conditions. The 18.5-inch cylinder-bore barrel is optimized for buckshot and slug patterns at defensive distances. The Mossberg 930 platform was introduced around 2005 as a gas-operated semi-auto evolution of Mossberg's hunting shotgun lineup. The SPX tactical variant arrived around 2008-2009. The self-regulating gas system was specifically engineered to eliminate the common problem of semi-auto shotguns failing to cycle light loads reliably. The EZ-Empty system allows rapid unloading without cycling each shell through the action -- depressing the bolt release raises the carrier so shells can be manually extracted from the magazine tube.
