About the Remington VersaMax

The Remington VersaMax is a gas-operated semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun introduced in 2010. Its defining feature is the patented VersaPort self-regulating gas system, in which a series of ports in the chamber are progressively uncovered or covered by the length of the chambered shell, automatically metering gas pressure so the gun cycles 2.75-inch, 3-inch, and 3.5-inch loads reliably without manual adjustment.

The VersaPort gas system reads the length of each shell as it sits in the chamber: a long 3.5-inch magnum covers more gas ports than a short target load, so the gun automatically bleeds off only as much pressure as it needs, letting one shotgun cycle everything from light clay loads to heavy waterfowl magnums.

Remington VersaMax specifications

The VersaPort system allowed the VersaMax to feed an unusually wide range of loads, from light target shells to heavy 3.5-inch magnums. It was succeeded by the lighter, lower-cost Remington V3.
