About the Ruger Hawkeye Standard
The Ruger Hawkeye Standard is a bolt-action hunting rifle introduced by Sturm, Ruger & Co. in 2006 as the base model of the M77 Hawkeye line, succeeding the M77 Mark II. It pairs a Mauser-inspired one-piece stainless steel bolt featuring two forward locking lugs and a non-rotating claw extractor for controlled-round feed with the refined LC6 trigger. The Standard model is fitted with an American walnut stock, a cold hammer-forged blued alloy steel barrel, an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, and Ruger's signature integral scope mount system, and is offered in calibers from .204 Ruger up to the magnums.
The M77 lineage began in 1968 when William B. Ruger set out to build a classic, Mauser-style controlled-round-feed sporting rifle at a time when most makers were moving to push-feed designs. The 2006 Hawkeye update added the lighter, smoother LC6 trigger and a recontoured stock, answering long-standing complaints about the earlier Mark II trigger.
