The Ruger No.1 Tropical is a single-shot centerfire rifle built on Bill Ruger's falling-block action, an under-lever design reminiscent of the classic British Farquharson. The Tropical model (No.1-H) is the heavy-barrel, dangerous-game configuration, offered in powerful cartridges such as the .416 Rigby with a 24-inch heavy 'D' profile barrel, an American walnut stock, a quarter-rib carrying express iron sights, and a top-tang safety. Its compact single-shot action gives a full-length barrel in a short, well-balanced package favored for African and other big-game hunting.

Bill Ruger introduced the No.1 in 1967 to fill a gap in the market for a high-quality single-shot sporting rifle at a time when repeaters dominated.
