About the Savage Model 5

The Savage Model 5 is a bolt-action, tubular-magazine .22 rimfire repeating rifle produced by Savage Arms from the mid-1930s to the early 1960s. A companion to the box-magazine Model 4, it feeds from an under-barrel tube that accepts interchangeable .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle cartridges, making it a popular general-purpose plinking and small-game sporting rifle of its era.

Inexpensive tube-fed .22 bolt-action repeaters like the Model 5 were staple farm and backyard rifles across mid-20th-century America, prized for cheaply digesting whatever mix of .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle ammunition was on hand.
