About the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0

The Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 is a micro-compact, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol chambered in .380 ACP, introduced in 2024 as a complete redesign of the original Bodyguard 380. The Bodyguard 2.0 represents a dramatic departure from its predecessor, replacing the internal hammer-fired mechanism with a modern striker-fired action and upgrading from a single-stack 6-round magazine to a 'stack-and-a-half' design that holds 10+1 rounds with the flush-fit magazine or 12+1 rounds with the included extended magazine. At just 9.8 ounces unloaded with a 2.75-inch stainless steel barrel and 5.5-inch overall length, the Bodyguard 2.0 is designed for deep concealment and pocket carry. The pistol features a flat-face Performance Center-style trigger, a tritium dot front sight with orange surround paired with a serrated U-notch rear sight, aggressive slide serrations fore and aft, and Smith & Wesson's Armornite corrosion-resistant finish on the stainless steel slide and barrel. Available in both thumb safety and no-thumb-safety configurations, the Bodyguard 2.0 uses a Browning-style tilting barrel short recoil action rather than the simple blowback of many .380 pistols, contributing to its remarkably soft recoil characteristics for its size class.

The original Bodyguard 380 was one of the most popular pocket pistols in America despite its notoriously heavy DAO trigger pull. Smith & Wesson's complete ground-up redesign for the 2.0 version nearly doubled capacity from 6 to 10 rounds while switching to a striker-fired action, answering years of customer feedback and positioning the Bodyguard 2.0 as a direct competitor to the SIG P365-380 and Ruger LCP MAX in the high-capacity micro .380 segment.

The Bodyguard 2.0 ships with both a 10-round flush-fit magazine and a 12-round extended magazine with a pinky extension. The 'stack-and-a-half' magazine design nearly doubles the capacity of the original Bodyguard 380's 6-round single-stack magazine while keeping the grip impressively slim at 0.88 inches. The original Bodyguard 380 was introduced in 2010 with an internal hammer and DAO trigger that many users found difficult to shoot accurately; the 2.0's switch to a striker-fired mechanism with a flat-face trigger addresses that criticism directly. The Browning-style tilting barrel action is uncommon in .380 ACP pistols, which typically use simpler blowback designs, and contributes to the Bodyguard 2.0's reputation as one of the softest-shooting micro .380 pistols available. A Performance Center Carry Comp variant is also available with a ported barrel and slide for further recoil reduction.
