About the Smith & Wesson Volunteer XV

The Smith & Wesson Volunteer XV is a 5.56x45mm NATO AR-15-pattern carbine introduced in 2022 as the flagship of S&W's new Volunteer series, named in tribute to Tennessee, the 'Volunteer State,' where the company relocated its headquarters. Built on S&W's mil-spec forged 7075 aluminum upper and lower receivers, the base 16-inch model pairs a 4140 chrome-moly-vanadium steel barrel with 5R rifling and a 1:8-inch twist, finished inside and out with corrosion-resistant Armornite. The barrel is threaded and capped with an A2 flash suppressor. Where the Volunteer XV departs from a plain mil-spec build is its premium furniture: a BCM (Bravo Company) Gunfighter M-LOK handguard, B5 Systems Bravo collapsible stock, and a B5 Systems pistol grip, plus a flat-faced single-stage trigger and chromed firing pin. The standard configuration retains a forward assist, dust cover, and forged trigger guard, and ships with a 30-round magazine; Magpul MBUS flip-up sights are offered on some configurations while base models ship optics-ready. The Volunteer line spans XV and XV Pro tiers in barrel lengths of 14.5, 16, and 20 inches, including an optics-ready model, a Crimson Trace red-dot bundle, and a 20-inch DMR (designated marksman rifle) variant.

Smith & Wesson named the Volunteer series for Tennessee, the 'Volunteer State,' marking the company's headquarters relocation there. Rather than a bare mil-spec build, S&W dressed the Volunteer XV in Bravo Company and B5 Systems furniture, pitching it as a turnkey AR-15 with premium ergonomics straight from the box.
