About the Stevens Armory No. 414
The Stevens Armory No. 414 is a single-shot .22 rimfire target rifle built on the Stevens No. 44-series falling-block action operated by an S-shaped underlever. Produced from about 1912 to 1932 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, it wore a 26-inch round barrel, a straight-grip walnut stock with military-style furniture and sling swivels, a Rocky Mountain front sight and a Lyman receiver aperture sight. Its 'Armory' name and cadet-rifle configuration made it a popular choice for NRA club, youth-organization and small-bore marksmanship training.
T.K. Lee of Birmingham, Alabama reportedly shot a near-perfect 1999 out of 2000 with a Stevens single-shot .22 during the 1913-14 season, and small-bore rifles of this Stevens pattern were tied to early 20th-century Olympic-era competitive shooting.

The No. 414 was aimed at the cadet and military-training market rather than the top competitive class, using simpler sights than Stevens' premium Ideal and Walnut Hill models. The butt tang was drilled and tapped for a folding aperture rear sight.
