The Thompson/Center LRR (Long Range Rifle) is a bolt-action precision rifle built on an aluminum chassis stock system, designed as a Performance Center product for long-range target shooting and competition. Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Winchester, and .243 Winchester, the LRR features a heavy-contour 4140 steel barrel with 5R rifling for reduced bullet deformation and easier cleaning, a threaded muzzle with an included muzzle brake, and a Performance Center-tuned trigger adjustable from 2.5 to 3.5 pounds. The aluminum chassis accepts standard AR-15 pistol grips and buttstocks, allowing extensive customization. The 10-round AICS-pattern detachable magazine provides compatibility with a wide range of aftermarket magazines. At approximately 11.5 pounds in 6.5 Creedmoor configuration, the LRR is built for stability at the bench and in competition rather than field portability.

Thompson/Center Arms was founded in 1967 by Kenneth Thompson and Warren Center, becoming famous for the Contender single-shot pistol and the Encore system. The LRR represented the brand's most ambitious foray into precision bolt-action rifles before the Thompson/Center name was quietly retired by parent company Smith & Wesson in the early 2020s.

Thompson/Center LRR specifications

The LRR was produced under Smith & Wesson's Performance Center division, which took over Thompson/Center Arms after acquiring it in 2007. The 5R rifling pattern (with 5 lands and grooves where the grooves have a slightly different angle) is designed to produce less bullet deformation than conventional rifling, potentially improving accuracy and reducing fouling. The 4140 steel barrel is a chromium-molybdenum alloy common in precision rifle applications. Thompson/Center was effectively discontinued by Smith & Wesson in 2023. MSRP was approximately $1,200-$1,400.
